Music Therapy for People Affected by Parkinson's Disease (Feb-Apr)
A local Auburn arts organization, Colla Voce of the Sierra, has partnered with McConnell Music Therapy Services to offer the CRESCENDO CHORUS for people affected by Parkinson’s Disease; the current session runs 2/12-4/30 on Wednesdays (10:30-11:30AM) at Pioneer United Methodist Church (1338 Lincoln Way, Auburn). Patients, along with their caregivers and family members are welcome to join the group weekly rehearsal. Cost is $149 per person/family (scholarships available by application). No prior music experience is necessary. The Crescendo chorus is a non-performance, therapy-based singing group in which individuals share in a joyful activity with therapeutic results. The chorus is led by Kathleen Humphries, MA, MT- BC, a board certified Music Therapist with additional training in Neurologic Music Therapy. She specializes in using evidence-based music therapy experiences to treat the brain and help sustain vocal abilities that may be decreasing due to brain injury or disease. This group will also provide participants with a network of community support. The Crescendo Chorus is made possible by a donation from Sutter Medical Group. Participation in the Crescendo Chorus provides: vocal and communication support through breathing, posture, and vocal exercises; increased physical functioning through use of rhythm and movement to music; an increased opportunity for new social and emotional support systems; artistic venue to share PD information with the community at large; and a community-based FUN experience with a purpose…To Sing and feel great!
