Crescendo Music Therapy Group for Neurologically Impaired
Local Auburn arts organization, Colla Voce of the Sierra, with McConnell Music Therapy Services offers a weekly a Crescendo Music Therapy Group, designed for those with Neurological Impairment (Parkinson’s Disease, stroke, traumatic brain injury) and their families. This Fall session is from 9/3-11/19 on Wednesdays (10:30-11:30AM) at Pioneer United Methodist Church in Auburn, and costs $149 for the 12-week term. Patients, along with their caregivers and family members are welcome to join the group weekly rehearsal. Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) contains research-based strategies that significantly contribute to improving and/or sustaining motor function, communication and cognition. Led by Board Certified Music Therapists with advanced training in Neurologic Music Therapy, this group provides opportunities to participate in therapeutic techniques that activate brain functions. These activities may include drumming, playing instruments, singing, movement, group song writing, and connecting with others through music. No prior music experience is needed! Participation in this special music therapy group provides vocal and communication support through breathing, posture, and vocal exercises, along with increased physical functioning through use of rhythm and movement to music, and an opportunity for new social and emotional support systems – and a fun experience with a therapeutic purpose to feel great!
